Cheese, Onion and Herb loaves


These little loaves should be served warm and are lovely with any of my soups, salads or side dishes.


  • 1 packet (250g) self-raising flour
  • 1 packet (usually 55 g) white onion soup
  • 1 tsp bicarb
  • 1 cup finely grated cheese
  • 500 ml buttermilk (or plain yoghurt)
  • 1 Tbsp fresh thyme or rosemary, finely chopped
  • pinch of salt


1. Mix all the ingredients well.

2. Pour into individual greased loaf tins.

2. Bake @ 180C for 50 minutes to one hour.


Lovely to serve with Creamed Carrot & Orange Soup 

and Spicy Butternut Soup with Cumin & Orange
